Christo and Jeanne-Claude (Artists) & Wolfgang Volz (Photographer, b. Jan. 17, 1948): Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972-76 - color photograph (Smithsonian)

I love Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Running Fence isn’t my favorite piece of theirs but it is lovely, and the backstory behind it - how the artists convinced landowners in Sonoma and Marin Counties to let them build this fabric fence on their land; the trials and hearings that went on; etc - is all really interesting. We watched a video about it in Art 101; I especially loved hearing these down-to-earth ranchers discussing the case for art.
