You know what would be cool? To know a woman who gets married and doesn’t change her name on Facebook within 12 hours of “I do.” It would also be nice to go to a wedding where the bride and groom are not announced as “Mr. and Mrs. Hisfirst Hislast.”
I went to my cousin’s wedding a few months ago and they did this, and it kind of hurt my heart. I mean, I know her, she is an amazingly driven person with a very strong personality and if anyone’s “wearing the pants” of her relationship it’s her. And these were clearly her choices. But it just hurt to hear her disappear within moments of saying, “I will,” to hear my beloved cousin whom I’ve known all my life to get absorbed into some guy. Sigh.

We let the priest do the latter, but I am still my maiden name on FB AND in real life, thank you very much! I even avoided changing my status (removed it for a while) because I didn’t want fertility/baby ads on FB.

Yeah, gross. Thankfully so far no one on Facebook has bugged me about keeping my name. I think all my Fbook friends know me well. :)
